“Can you remote into my computer?” is one of the most common questions we get, and usually the most misunderstood. People picture a stranger poking around their files with no idea what’s happening. In reality, remote support is a controlled, session-based connection you approve, watch, and can end at any moment. Here’s exactly how it works and why it’s one of the safest ways to get IT help.
What remote support actually is
Remote support means a technician connects to your screen over the internet to fix an issue directly, instead of talking you through it over the phone or requiring an in-person visit. You see everything that happens in real time, on your own screen, and nothing happens without you starting the session.
How the connection actually works
We use Supremo, a reputable remote-support tool built for exactly this. You download a small program (no install required) and it gives you a one-time numeric code. You read that code to us, or enter ours, and that’s what creates the connection — nothing opens up on your computer until you actively share that code.
What we can (and can’t) do
Once connected, we can see your screen and, with your permission, control your mouse and keyboard to fix the issue directly. We can’t access your computer before or after the session, and we can’t get in again without a brand new code from you. There’s no silent background access and nothing left running once you close it.
Why it’s actually one of the safer support options
Every session is started by you, visible to you, and ends the moment you close the window or we disconnect. Compare that to handing your laptop over at a shop for a few days, where you’ve got no visibility into what’s being accessed while it’s out of your hands. With remote support, you’re watching the whole time.
When remote support isn’t the right tool
Some problems are physical — a cracked screen, a failing hard drive, a laptop that won’t power on at all — and no remote connection can fix hardware. If that’s what you’re dealing with, we’ll say so straight away rather than waste your time, and get you booked in for an in-person repair instead.
Getting started
If you need help right now, head to our Contact page, download Supremo for Windows or macOS, and give us a call — most sessions are sorted in minutes, at our standard flat rate of $150/hour with no surprise fees.
